NEW PANTRY LOCATION
The Lee Food Pantry moved to its new location at 130 Housatonic Street in Lee on December 7, 2024. This location will be temporary for three years. We continue to work with the Town of Lee to find our new permanent space. Paying for rent will impact our budget because, since 1991, we have not had to pay rent and utilities.
We are working on a few options to secure funds to offset these expenses. We have estimated the cost to be $20,000 annually for the three years.
ABOUT THE LEE FOOD PANTRY
Lee Food Pantry opened in 1991 when the Community Emergency Needs Resource Center, now Lee Food Pantry, was established and located at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Lee. In 2010 and 2011, St. George’s sold their properties. In 2013, St. George’s consolidated with St. James in Great Barrington and became Grace Church, an Episcopal Community in the Southern Berkshires. The pantry continues to be a ministry of Grace Church and currently serves an average of fifty households per week. In 2023, the pantry served over 6300 individuals.
The pantry serves residents of Lee and its surrounding towns, which include Stockbridge, Tyringham, Lenox Dale, and Becket.
We can supply not just food to our clients but also diapers through the Berkshire Diaper Project, cat and dog food through Irie’s Pet Pantry, fresh produce provided by Berkshire Bounty and Gideon’s Garden (also a ministry of Grace Church), and donations of bread and baked goods from our local Big-Y supermarket. We are purchasing milk and eggs from Highlawn Farm and are grateful for our discount.
The pantry is open every Saturday from 10:00AM-Noon. We have a rotation of five teams of volunteers that have a specific Saturday of the month to distribute. Members of UCC in Lee, St. Paul’s in Stockbridge, St. Mary’s in Lee, Grace Church in Great Barrington, and volunteers from our local community make up the teams.
All donations come from individuals, businesses, and organizations in our communities. It would not exist without all of you. There is no amount too small. Several food drives throughout the year also help in keeping our shelves full.
