NEW PANTRY LOCATION – EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 7, 2024
The Lee Food Pantry will be moving to its new location at 130 Housatonic Street in Lee effective December 7, 2024. This will be a temporary location for three years while the new public safety headquarters in Lee is completed at our existing location at 45 Railroad Street. We will not be going back to this location; however, we continue to work with the Town of Lee to find our new permanent space. This will impact on our budget as, since 1991, we have not had to pay rent and utilities.
We are working on a few options to secure funds to offset these expenses. We have estimated the cost to be $20,000 per year for the three years.
ABOUT THE LEE FOOD PANTY
Lee Food Pantry opened in 1991 when the Community Emergency Needs Resource Center, now Lee Food Pantry, was established and located at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Lee. The pantry continues as a ministry of Grace Church and currently serves an average of fifty households per week. In 2023, over 6300 individuals were served.
The pantry serves residents of Lee and its surrounding towns which include Stockbridge, Tyringham, Lenox Dale and Becket.
We supply not just food to our clients but also diapers through the Berkshire Diaper Project, cat and dog food through Irie’s Pet Pantry, fresh produce provided by Berkshire Bounty and Gideon’s Garden (also a ministry of Grace Church) and donations of breads and baked goods from our local Big-Y supermarket. We are purchasing milk and eggs from Highlawn Farm and are grateful for our discount.
We have a rotation of five teams of volunteers that have a specific Saturday of the month to distribute. These teams are made up from members of UCC in Lee, St. Paul’s in Stockbridge, St. Mary’s in Lee, Grace Church in Great Barrington and a team from our local community. The pantry is open every Saturday from10:00 AM-Noon.
All donations come from individuals, businesses and organizations in our communities. It would not exist without all of you. There is no amount too small. Several food drives throughout the year also help in keeping our shelves full.
